Usually when you setup an opt in page for your newsletter, report or free gift, this is the sequence that your visitor would probably experience.

1. Land on opt in page.

2. Opt in and redirected to thank you page. Done!

Recently I have tested a different sequence which have increased number of opt in by 30%. Here are the changes I made:

1. Land on opt in page.

2. Opt in and redirected to SHARE WITH FRIENDS page. I would offer an extra bonus/gift if visitor share with another 3 friends.
3. Visitor share the info with 3 other friends and redirected to a thank you page. Email that visitor the link to the gift. Done!
4. Visitor also have a choice not to share the info with his/her friends and go directly to thank you page.

By adding an extra step, I was able to rake in 30% more opt in and the work involve is very very minimal. I did this test and the result was based on 300 opt in. I actually use Viral Friend Generator to help me easily setup the extra share with friends page and all.

The script is nothing ground breaking. It is the twist in the concept that makes the big difference. Viral Friend Generator script is a product by Mike Filsaime and so far its pretty well supported although tiny bugs here and there. Definitely worth the price to save your time and hassle.

On a side note, there are free alternatives available online that could do similar task but as for how good and effective it is, still remains ???. I think there are some critical features that are missing in the alternatives which you really need to check and make sure that it cannot be exploit for spamming purpose. :)
