Many times we hear things like “Oh, thats because you have connection with the Gurus”, or “I don’t think the Gurus will bother to reply to my email” …etc

You probably would have the same thoughts as well when it comes to getting in touch with top marketers.

I started from scratch 5 months back with zero connection with the so called “Gurus”. Now, I am in contact with probably 50 marketers and most of them are huge marketers like Jeff Dedrick, John Delavera, JP Schoeffel, Edmund Loh, Liz Tomey, Chris (DJK), Ben Shaffer, Gobala Krishnan, Bob Bastian, Ian Del Carmen and many more. They were also my JV partners when I launched VinceTanReadyEBooks.com last month.

So the question is how did I got in touch with them? Let me tell you this, the most important step to take is “JUST ASK”. Yep, simple as it may seem, you must first ask. If you just assume that they will not reply you, well you are probably right cause you did not even ask in the first place.

Few other quick tips I would like to share with you is this

  • Check out their blog, products and if possible their photos. Look for possible things you could use to start a conversation such as “Hey you have a cat! I have one myself… ” , “By the way, this product ___ is something i’ve been referring to all these while, great job” .. Things like this will grab their first attention. Remember, they are very busy. So there will be very little time for you to grab their attention. So in a way, writing your email to them is like writing a sales copy. You need to have a good headline, follow by subheadlines, and just keep getting them to continue reading your email.
  • Secondly, if you can, find out if the marketer that you wish to approach is closely related to who. Then check and see if you can first get in touch with the marketer’s friend before you get directly in contact with that marketer itself. Once you get acquainted with their friends, then it will be easier to slowly move yourself up to the Guru itself.
  • Do not think that marketers are arrogant if they don’t reply you. The problem is they are afterall the “Guru” and also probably swamp with tons of emails everyday. If they reply each one of them, they will probably not have enough time to try out news things or create new products for you to use. So remember to approach them with an open mind.
  • Never ask a silly question. How do you tell if its a silly question? Just go to Google and do a search for the answer you looking for. If you can find it in Google, that is a silly question. If you still ask the Guru, that means you are basically asking them to search in Google on your behalf. That is a real turn off. Make sure you have done your homework prior to asking them. I’ve also gotten rude emails like “Can you tell me how much you really make?”. Gosh, when will people learn.
  • They are *&(#@&#@ cause they do not want to JV with me. Yes I hear this statement way too often. Its simple. Why should they JV with you? Is there no one else in the world can offer them what you just offered? If your answer to this question is yes, then maybe the Guru is really a doodoo. They get tons of JV request everyday. Even 100% commission offers, etc… you name it they probably gotten it. So they definitely will have to be picky. They will need to make sure that the offer is suitable for their list. I would suggest that you should start building a list by giving reports away, some form of viral marketing (refer friends), etc. Then do some adswap with marketers of similar list size, and then join giveaway event. You can easily reach anywhere between 1,000 - 3,000 subscribers with just this few methods. After that just rinse and repeat.
  • Offer help whenever you can. Do not say things like “but I don’t know anything”. Thats crap. There are many ways you can offer help, from product review, testing, design, technical, etc. By helping others, you establish yourself as someone people can look up to and in time, you will find that people will help you as well. These very people who have gotten your help could one day be big marketers and will in turn help you too. The law of reciprocate.

Well, thats enough for today :)
I’ve been actively building relationship since the very beginning. It takes a lot of time but it will take you further.
